This includes understanding the specific requirements of the industry, developing scripts from stories, and analysing the different script genres and looking at the short film - structure, film language, how film works in levels and compression, the elements of film, and analysing successful short films.

This course will enable you to understand and explore some of the business aspects of writing and to develop and apply professional procedures, ethics and basic business skills. It includes documentation of findings in the form of databases, curriculum vitae, professional interviews, funding applications, copyright, and employment issues such as tax, basic accounting and benefits in relation to writers.

How do writers make facts interesting? This course enables students to acquire critical understanding of non-fiction books and articles. They will explore and practise techniques and elements of style in non-fiction writing for children or adults.

This course introduces the basic elements of fiction writing and effective writing techniques. Through reading a wide range of novels, students gain understanding of the underlying construction of long texts on which they can apply to their own writing.
