Exhibition 1 provides a framework for students to extend the work they have produced in Studio 1, taking it through to exhibition stage. Students will be working towards an exhibition in an alternative space (i.e. not in a gallery).
Issues relating to exhibition in alternative spaces will be reviewed and discussed. Students will gain an understanding of avant-garde critiques of standard exhibition sites, such as galleries and museums, a contributing factor in many innovations and shifts in thinking about art during the 20th century. In class we will look at context, the ideology of the white cube, installation art, site-specific art, and public art.
